There is a shift currently from some medical aids in the direction towards procedural sedation in the rooms rather than in the operating room. This is an ongoing dynamic process. Where possible authorization for sedation needs to be obtained from your medical aid prior to the procedure date.
It is possible to claim the sedation costs from some medical aids saving accounts or day to day expenses. Where possible this will be done.
The sedation fee covers the following:
- Intravenous drip infusion
- Emla patches if applied
- All intravenous medication used for sedation
- The use of all monitoring equipment during the sedation
